FG Invests ₦89.2 Billion in Roads, Schools, and Security in FCT
The Federal Government has allocated more than ₦89.2 billion to improve infrastructure and educational facilities in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the past year.
This funding covers major road construction projects and the rehabilitation of critical schools in the area.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike shared these developments, highlighting that ₦7 billion was invested in building the five-kilometer Gaba–Tokulo Road, ₦27 billion was spent rehabilitating the Dutse to Bwari Road, and ₦28 billion went toward the dualization of the Ushafa to War College Road. According to Wike, the Gaba–Tokulo road project was initiated in response to requests from residents.
“The people of Bwari requested this road, and to the glory of God, we awarded the contract in January 2024. Today, we are inaugurating the completed project,” Wike stated.
He also emphasized that the current administration has prioritized road infrastructure across various councils since the start of the year.
“Since Monday, we have been inaugurating road projects, and this exercise will conclude tomorrow. In 2024, under President Tinubu’s directive, we committed to constructing one road in each area council, ensuring that all councils benefit from the administration's development efforts,” he added.
Rehabilitation and Construction of Schools
Beyond roads, ₦27 billion has been directed toward upgrading and building schools in the area. The schools benefiting from these projects include:
Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse
Government Secondary School (GSS), Bwari
Government Girls Secondary School, Ushafa (newly built)
Government Girls Secondary School, Dei Dei
Government Girls Secondary School, Kubwa
Government Girls Secondary School, Jibi
The minister also mentioned that the government is enhancing security in the region, with two new police divisional offices currently under construction and expected to be completed by May.
Looking ahead, the FCT Administration has allocated funds in the 2025 budget for additional road projects in each area council. The Gaba–Tokulo Road is also set to be extended to Kawu, a border community near Kaduna State, and streetlights will be installed along the road.
Community Response
Bwari Area Council Chairman, Mr. John Gabaya, expressed gratitude for the remarkable developments, noting that rural communities are witnessing unprecedented progress.
Gabaya appealed for further extensions of the road to connect with the Kawu community and suggested a new road linking the Murtala Mohammed Expressway via Kubwa to the Nigeria Law School in Bwari.
