FCT Administration Begins Demolition of 50 Illegal Structures in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the demolition of 50 duplexes and bungalows in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, which were constructed without proper authorization.

Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the FCTA's Department of Development Control, led the demolition on Thursday. He stated that the buildings were illegally constructed by land speculators without obtaining necessary approvals from the relevant authorities.

Galadima clarified that the affected area, located in the southwestern part of Sabon Lugbe, is part of the Phase 5 District of the Federal Capital City (FCC). He emphasized that the department had previously warned of its intent to act against illegal land developments in the area, advising people to conduct proper due diligence before purchasing any property to ensure its legality.

He mentioned that the demolition effort is starting with 10 buildings and will expand, with the goal of bringing down nearly 50 illegal duplexes and bungalows. "Tomorrow, we will return in full force to ensure that all illegal structures are removed," Galadima stated.

He further highlighted other areas where land grabbers are active, including Idu Train Station (now part of Gosa and Kyami), the Apo Tarfi area, and Lugbe. Galadima stressed that unauthorized developments in the capital city will not be tolerated, and that land speculators have been misleading residents by falsely claiming that certain areas will be incorporated into Phase 5 of the FCC.

"There is no such thing as integration," he said. "Illegality is illegality, and we will continue to remove every unauthorized structure within the FCT."
