Lagos To Expand Rail Network With Strategic Redesign of Oshodi Transport Interchange

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to revamp the Oshodi Transport Interchange (OTI) as part of efforts to integrate it with the state’s evolving Rail Mass Transit systems.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed that the redesign initiative aims to align the interchange with the state’s larger urban mobility strategy. This move is particularly crucial as the state prepares to link the Red Line rail project with the already operational Blue Line.

According to Osiyemi, the government is aware of the current challenges facing the OTI and is taking deliberate steps to enhance its functionality. “The Lagos State Government is committed to addressing ongoing issues and improving the infrastructure at Oshodi to ensure it meets the demands of future rail integration,” he said.

He further noted that a comprehensive assessment of the interchange’s current design and operational framework is underway. “We recognise the need to re-evaluate the existing structure of the OTI. As such, we will be convening meetings with key stakeholders to review its performance and identify solutions that can improve its efficiency and overall user experience,” the commissioner explained.

The review process will be guided by international best practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with the goal of transforming the interchange into a multi-modal transport hub capable of supporting the city’s ambitious mass transit goals.

This redevelopment forms part of Lagos State’s broader transportation reform plan, which seeks to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and provide residents with a reliable, efficient, and modern public transport system.
